Counselling & Psychotherapy

What is counselling

Counselling is essentially a lively, human and personal experience between two people. Primarily, it aims to help you discover more about yourself.

It involves being prepared to share some of your deepest and most uncomfortable feelings and can be both comforting and challenging. It is different from other kinds of help where appropriately, at times, diagnosis or assessment is made.

Counselling is not about judging or minimising your problems. Rather, it is about valuing and respecting the efforts you are making to try and work things out. It doesn’t claim to be the answer to all human difficulties but aims to help you find your own answers, by enabling you to take charge of your life.

Counselling is not only for when you find life difficult. It can also help in other areas of your life, such as:

  • relationships
  • guidance on making significant life decisions
  • introducing positive lifestyle choices
  • changes in employment (including starting a new job or adapting to changes in an existing one)
  • developing personal confidence

About us

We offer a high-quality, affordable service to clients and counsellors across West Lothian.

For those in a position to pay, we provide timely access to a range of counsellors covering various specialisms, such as anxiety, depression and couples counselling.

We support local counsellors with affordable room rental, training and access to referral lists.

We are based in Livingston, just off the M8 motorway, so are easily accessible for those across the central belt of Scotland.

We're a social enterprise

Our service is an offshoot of the Bridge Community Project in Livingston. As a non-profit organisation, all income flows directly back into the charity side of the organisation, enabling it to continue providing much-needed support for clients across West Lothian.

Being a social enterprise allows us to fund our work without relying on grants or income from external funding bodies. This also allows us to develop our services in response to the needs of our clients and within our founder’s ethos.
